The Plattekill Fire Department is leading the operation to contain and put out the Hemlock Ridge fire and are working closely with other agencies. The fire which is burning on Marlboro Mountain is in it's second day. Smoke and ash has been reported in the area of both Lewis Lane and upper Unionville Road.

Brush Fire on Marlboro Mountain Visible Miles from Location

As expected the terrain is playing a part in making the fire hard to contain. The elevation of the fire is the reason it is visible so far from the actual flames. The visibility extends for miles. Both the Town of Plattekill and the Town of Marlboro have burn bans in effect. With no significant rain in the forecast is important that people adhere to the ban which will likely be extended.
