Dangerous Storms Blow Through the Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley is experiencing its first real heat wave of the 2026 season.

Parts of the region will see temperatures in the 90s, with the heat index in some places it will feel like 102F degrees.

Summer is coming in hot. Literally.

With the hot and humid temperatures comes severe weather. Putnam County was hit pretty hard on Thursday June 11th, 2026 after a severe thunderstorm blew through the area.

Heavy rain, damaging winds and hail was reported. Now, a  local farm is sharing details  of the damage that the storm left behind and how it will affect their crops.

Severe Thunderstorm Damages Crops at Pawling, NY Farm

Dykeman Farm in Pawling shared photos and details of the damage that Thursday's storm left behind.

They wrote on Facebook "Life on the farm is never dull and unfortunately today was no different!" From there, Dykeman Farm explains that the thunderstorm and hail caused holes in both of their greenhouses.

As for their crops, Dykeman adds:

 some field tomatoes were snapped in half, zucchini is beat up and everything else seems good so far.

The farm adds that the damage means that they may have less "first quality" tomatoes this season and price may change so they "are able to open" their doors this year and next year too.

Surprise Freeze Hurt Hudson Valley Crops

This isn't the first time that weather has affected our local farmers this year.

Towards the end of April 2026, after the Hudson Valley was hit with a heatwave, a burst of chilly weather overnight blanketed the area.

Temperatures dipped down to below 27F degrees. When temperatures drop that low it has the potential to destroy apple and other crops.

Unfortunately, the freeze did some damage. While it wasn't a total loss of their apple crop, Dressel Farm in New Paltz shared "We're expecting about 15% of an apple crop."

Their crop of peaches were also hit hard, however their strawberries are looking good and "seem to be in the best shape of anything."

Local farmers, including those at Dressel and Dykeman, say the best way to help them is to support the local farms in your area.
