Why Should People Walk In A Hudson Valley Forest
I have always been someone who preferred walking in the woods as opposed to anywhere else. I figured it was because I grew up on Storm King Mountain in Cornwall, and in order to get to friends' houses, the shortest distance was always through the woods.
Why Do We Feel Better After Walking in the Woods
Even if there is no set trail in the forest, it always seemed that there was a path. Back when I was growing up, no one ever mentioned the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing, but I can tell you now as an adult, it was definitely what kept me on the wooded path, and I didn't even know the reason.

Here is a question, the las time you took a walk through the woods did you feel better? I realize not every one is a fan some might prefer an organized pedestrain path or even the beach. Both of those are sure to have their benefits to but it seems walking and spending time is the woods has been proven to be good for you.
What Is Forest Bathing
A National Geographic Article from October of 2018 really breaks down what Forest Bathing is all about. In short, it is a type of ecotherapy that is simply immersing oneself in a forest environment and taking time to absorb the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest.
I actually have moments when I crave a walk in the woods, and I honestly chalked it up to good childhood memories, but turns out it may be my body telling me something. Forest Bathing has been proven to boost your immune system.

If you are looking for a guided Forest Bathing event to get you started, you can head to the Hudson Highlands Nature Center (HHNC) on June 7th. This event is for ages 16 and up and does have a fee, but members of the HHNC get a discount. On June 8th, they are also holding Journaling in Nature, another opportunity to unplug in the forest.
So, find some eco-friendly bug spray because even when you're Forest Bathing, there will be ticks and other pesky bugs, and head out into the forest for a restorative walk.
