Clues You Might Be Driving the Wrong Way in New York

Some of the signs are easy to miss if you’re not thinking about them. For example, if you look down at the pavement and see an arrow pointing directly at you, you’re going the wrong direction. Lane markings can also give it away. If the white line is on your left and the yellow line is on your right, that’s another clear sign that something isn’t right.

You can also check reflectors along barriers or dividers. If they’re red and facing you, that typically means you’re going against traffic. And if you’re only seeing the backs of road signs instead of the fronts, that’s yet another warning.

What To Do If You Realize You’re Driving the Wrong-Way

If it clicks that you’re going the wrong direction, don’t panic, but act quickly. Safely pull over to the side of the road and come to a complete stop. Take a moment to get your bearings, and when it’s safe, turn around and head back in the right direction.

What To Do If You See a Wrong-Way Driver

If you spot someone else heading the wrong way, the most important thing you can do is protect yourself. Slow down, stay alert, and if possible, pull over to a safe location. From there, call 911 and report what you’re seeing so authorities can respond as quickly as possible.
