
Devastating Fire Displaces Poughkeepsie Family
A massive fire destroyed the second floor of a two-and-a-half-story home in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Wednesday.
Firefighters in Poughkeepsie spent part of Wednesday, February 18th, 2026 battling a two alarm fire at a home in Poughkeepsie that destroyed the second floor and attic of the two and a half story residence.

According to a recent post on the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, NY Local 596's Facebook page, a heavy fire engulfed the second floor and attic of the 2.5-story house at 122 South Cherry Street in Poughkeepsie, NY Wednesday.
The post didn't say how the fire started or how long it took firefighters to extinguish it, but it did say that thankfully, there were no injuries reported at the scene.
Family Displaced by Fire
As you can see in the pictures (above/below), the fire engulfed the upper portion of the home, but due to the quick work of responding firefighters and first responders, the fire didn't reach the first floor.

Numerous residents took to social media following the fire to commend firefighters on their work. One comment stated,
"This is my neighbor’s house. Thank you to the fire fighters and the police officers that arrived very quickly to fight the fire and manage the busy street!"
Fundraiser to Help Poughkeepsie Family
Following the fire, the daughter of the family involved started a GoFundMe to help with the losses.
"We are raising funds to support my parents, Felicitas Alvarez and Joel Antonio," said Miriam Alvarez. "Their house, located at 122 Cherry Street, burned down yesterday, February 17th."
She explained that the fire didn't reach the second floor, but everything inside the home was damaged and will most likely need to be replaced. Alveraz set a goal of $1,600.
