This call was a bit unusual but The Plattekill Fire Department was up to the task they even called in an additional fire department to assist. The Cronomer Valley Fire Department jumped in on the call to help.

In the Facebook post about the rescue the Plattekill Fire Department included some statistics about the department and also stated the need for volunteers. They shared that the Plattekill Fire Department has responded to 30 calls in the month of August so far which brings the yearly total to 566 at the moment.
They mentioned that both themselves and the Cronomer Valley Fire Department are 100 percent volunteers. They also shared that 90.3 percent of New York Fire Departments are volunteers. And the sad fact is that over the last five years, the amount of residents volunteering in emergency services in the US has gone down 30 percent.
They are encouraging everyone to volunteer with their local fire department.
