Fall is my favorite time of year. After a long hot summer, there is nothing better than being able to open the windows at night and feel a bit of a chill. Soon we will be able to add a sweater to our daily wardrobe and start making food that sticks to your ribs.

There are a few things I make sure to do in the Fall around my house and I find that it helps me make to transition from hot to cold go much smoother. The transition goes beyond clothes, although that might be the first thing you think of when contemplating the temperatures dropping each night.

Fall Arrives this Week in the Hudson Valley

This is the week when I try to decide when I will put the air conditioners back in the garage. I also always think about the last big cleanout. Fall cleaning is just as important as Spring cleaning. This will also be the week I locate and organize outdoor holiday decorations including Halloween. I am not the only one thinking it is time to change seasons the town I live in is doing the same.

All over New Paltz, there are signs that Fall is here. For starters, all the SUNY New Paltz college students are back which makes the town lively. Even the stores get in on their return with all kinds of products geared towards setting up a new living space. And speaking of the stores at some point all the windows when from Summer themes to Fall over this past weekend.

New Paltz and many other Hudson Valley towns are making the transition this week so that everything is ready for the leaf peepers, They will be the next group that will visit our area to take in what the farms, restaurants, and stores have to offer.

After I get through the list around the house it is time to start enjoying the fall things that are going on around town. Apple picking is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you say Fall to me but the truth is apples are picked often before the actual first day of Fall. If you are looking to go apple picking then be sure to check out Dressel Farm.

Haunted attractions are also big here in the Hudson Valley. We have everything from a town all lit up with pumpkins to the Headless Horseman. I haven't had a chance yet to get to all of the celebrations but it is on my bucket list and I am on my way. The New Paltz Halloween Parade is one event you won't want to miss.

Visit a Hudson Valley Winery, Distillery, or Brewery and bring home some of the best spirits you will ever drink.
