Developer Plans $3.1 Million TV, Movie Studio In Newburgh

A developer has big plans for a long-shuttered Newburgh public school. The $3.1 million plan would see the construction of television and movie sound stages at the old Public School 6 on the corner of Liberty and Renwick Streets.

With the building closed since 1980, the Times Herald-Record reports developer Thomas Dodd and his wife Pearl-Son Dodd hopes to continue their work of renovating and reclaiming old buildings. They've worked on several projects in Brooklyn including art galleries and sound stages.

In October, the Mid Hudson Regional Economic Development Council opened the door to a potential $600,000 grant from Empire State Development to go along with a possible $500,000 Main Street Downtown Anchor Grant. According to the Record, Dodd plans to start construction this spring with or without the grants in place although, without the additional funding, it'll take longer to renovate.

Plans call for the first and second floor of the facility to become production offices while the third floor will feature 7,000 square feet of sound stages.
