Hudson Valley hunters this one is for you. More specifically, it's for the ladies.

The Department of Environmental Conservation has announced a new photo contest that will spotlight women who hunt.  The WomenHuntFishNY photo contest will run through December 31st.

The DEC is asking participants to submit photos of "aspects of safe and ethical hunting."  They're looking for photos of hunters preparing to go afield, in the act of hunting, after the hunt and with family members. Photos can be submitted to socialmedia@dec.ny.gov.

In a press release DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos states that "Women are the fastest growing segment of adult hunters and DEC is excited to provide a forum to share their experiences with others interested in hunting and outdoor recreation in New York State." According to DEC records there are almost 50,000 women who are licensed to hunt in New York State.

Winners of the photo contest will be featured in next years issue of New York State Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide, "and may appear in a future issue of the Conservationist magazine, social media posts, the DEC website, and other outreach."

While the contest ends on December 31st, the DEC encourages hunters to share their photos all year around.
