Culinary Honors Anthony Bourdain With Campus Memorial
A striking memorial honoring Culinary graduate Anthony Bourdain is available for all to see at The Culinary Institute of America.
Bourdain died at the age of 61 in June 2018. The chef and writer graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978. In December 2017, he gave the commencement speech at CIA and received an honorary degree.
He also filmed an episode of "No Reservations" in the local area. In the episode, he stopped by a taco truck in front of Family Dollar in Newburgh, the black dirt region of Orange County, the Roundout in Kingston and the CIA.
About a year after his death, the Culinary Institute of America announced plans to honor the late chef with the Anthony Bourdain Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship is for CIA students who hope to follow Anthony’s global path of discovery, according to the CIA.
The CIA also honored Bourdain by naming the main hallway in Roth Hall as 'Les Halles D'Anthony Bourdain.' Roth Hall is the main building for the CIA's campus in the Hudson Valley. The naming of the hallway and a plaque with his image "will forever remind faculty, students, and visitors of Anthony Bourdain’s amazing legacy," the CIA wrote in a bio for Bourdain.
The campus mural of Bourdain, which can be seen above, is located on campus by the Egg, officials say.
