It's going to be a busy weekend for boy scouts in Ulster and Greene counties.

According to the Daily Freeman, last week, Boy Scouts from both Counties kicked off their annual “Scouting for Food,” food drive by distributing bags to residents and encouraging them to fill the bags with nonperishable food items. They are looking for stuff like pasta, cereals, baby food and canned vegetables, soups and more.

If you didn't get one of the bags from the scouts, you can call the Rip Van Winkle Council’s service center at (845) 339-0846 for information on how to get a bag.

Once you have your bag all filled up, the scouts are asking that you place the bag outside of your house starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The 1,000 plus scouts will be collecting the food items until around noon on 11/12. If your bag is not collected by noon you should call the service center and let them know.

The food that is collected will go to local food pantries in the two counties.

The Rip Van Winkle Council of the Boy Scouts of America told the Daily Freeman that since this food drive began 28 years ago, they have collected and distributed 2.01 million items totaling 700 tons of food.
