Bear Tranquilized Out of a Tree in Middletown
A bear had to be tranquilized after it climbed up a tree in the city of Middletown, NY.
First responders had their hands full earlier this week in Orange County after multiple agencies began to receive reports that there was a bear roaming around in an area that was unsafe for the bear and any nearby people.
Bear Spotted in Middletown, New York
According to a social media post from the City of Middletown Police Department (MPD), it all started on Monday when officers were dispatched to an area along Academy Avenue in the city after multiple calls reported that a bear was in the area. The humorous post stated,
"Our officers have responded to multiple reports of a lazy black bear taking a stroll along Academy Avenue. If it’s your bear, please come pick it up-it’s causing a significant disturbance and generating multiple phone calls and social media posts ♂️♂️♂️ Otherwise, please avoid the area until he returns back to his/her residence!!!"
After nobody responded to the department's "plea", they did the next best thing and called in some backup from some nearby friends.

According to the Middletown Fire Department, they received a call from MPD asking if they could assist them with an "oversized kitten" in a tree. They posted on Facebook,
"Received a call from our friends at PD on 8/4/25 for assistance getting this oversize kitten (bear) lol that had been tranquilized out of a tree."
Upon arrival, MFD reported that the bear had made its way up a tree and needed to be tranquilized to get it down safely.

As you can see in the picture above, firefighters assisted in safely bringing the bear down from the tree. MFD said that once he was lowered, he was handed over to a local wildlife management agency.
The agency tagged the bear and "will make sure he gets back out to the wild where there is more wooded area than the City of Middletown," said MFD.
