Autism Day at Six Flags Great Adventure

For anyone who has autism, has a child with autism, or knows a friend with autism, spending the day at an Amusement Park isn't always an easy thing to do. With all of the noise, music, lights, fast pace, and general sensory overload, it can be tough on folks who don't have sensory issues. Add in judgmental stares from other parents who don't understand why your child is acting the way they are and looking at you as if to say why aren't you a better parent, makes you not want to spend that kind of money for a day that has to be endured, not enjoyed.

Until now. The Custom Education Foundation and the Gersh Academy will be working to make Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ into a sensory-friendly place for families to enjoy on May 3.

The music and the lights throughout the park will be turned down, decompression areas will be available throughout the park, highly trained educational staff will be in the park to assist families all day, and the entire park will be reserved just for this event. Imagine, no judgmental stares and people who understand your family's challenges and who are there to help.

This special event is the first of its kind at a major amusement park, so there's lots of excitement surrounding this. The event will run from 10:30 am to 6 pm on May 3 and many schools are getting involved to make this a field trip for their students.
