Popular Grocery Store Opening Location in Upstate New York
A big name in groceries is moving forward with plans to add its 135th location in New York.
If you handle the grocery shopping for your house, you don't need us to tell you that it's one of the biggest expenses we have every month. Just about everything on store shelves has gone up in price.
That's why so many shoppers continue to try and find ways to save a few dollars every time they go shopping. Some use coupons, while others have begun to shop at different stores that offer better prices on the things we need. The good news is that one of those "better price" stores is expanding in New York.
Aldi Expanding in New York
If you've never shopped at an Aldi store, they are considered a discount grocery store, or a no-frills store that offers customers high-quality products at low prices. Each store is built on simplicity, efficiency, and cost savings according to its website.

New Aldi in Upstate New York
Back in January 2024, plans were submitted to the Colonie Town Planning Board in Colonie, NY outlining a project that would allow a new Aldi store to open. The new store, which is proposed on a lot at 831 Loudon Road, in Latham, NY would be built on the site of an abandoned hotel and restaurant just next door to a La Quinta Inn and Suites.
When preliminary plans were submitted to the board about a year ago, they highlighted some concerns with the project, including the impact a new store would have on traffic in the area, as well as the number of parking spaces that would be available for shoppers.
One Step Closer?
According to WRGB, a Senior Principal of Civil Engineering for the project, Chris Kambar went back before the planning board last week to provide an update on the project before they attempt to ask for final approval. He provided the board with plans for changes to the entrances and exits, as well as adding sidewalks, and additional vegetation to the lot. He also shared that they increased the number of parking spaces from 94 to over 100.
The board accepted the adjusted plans at the February 4th meeting. The project could be up for final approval at some time later this year.
