Owner and operator of Fairview Cinema 3 located in Greenport tells the Register Star that despite all his efforts the theater will be closing this weekend. Bruce Mitchinson has owned the theater for 18 years but the business has been a staple in the Hudson area for almost 50 years. Mitchinson says financial constraints along with changes in the industry lead to the decision to close.

"I’m going to miss my loyal customers, but it is just not feasible to continue," he tells the newspaper.

The theater had been operating three screens up until a few years ago when operators were required to go digital. This created more of strain on the struggling cinema. Despite a fundraiser, Mitchinson was only able to purchase one digital projector, knocking them down to just the one screen.

Final arrangements for the closing weekend are still being planned but the final film will be rolled on Sunday, March 19. Keep an eye on their website www.fairviewcinema3.com for a list of the full weekends events.
