Adams Fairacre Farms Announces Plans For Orange County Location

Locally-owned grocery store chain Adams Fairacre Farms has announced plans to open a fifth Hudson Valley location. They're in the process of purchasing a 7-acre plot of land in the Town of Wallkill according to the Times Herald-Record.

There are still steps to take before plans can move forward. The plot of land is actually seven parcels next to one another and must undergo environmental testing. The Record reports the properties house a mechanic's garage, empty buildings, and an old gas station. Plans must still be presented to the Town Planning Board and could be done so as early as next month.

Adams got their start in 1919 when Ralph A. Adams and Mary Rogers Adams purchased 50 acres of farmland on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie. The Poughkeepsie location would see a number of expansions and renovations over the years including the addition of the Fences and Power Equipment divisions.

They expanded to Kingston in 1981 and then to Newburgh in 1998. The fourth store in the Town of Wappinger opened in 2011 along Route 9. Recent years have seen upgrades to the Poughkeepsie and Kingston stores and most recently the new Pizza Shop opening in Newburgh.
