Wolf Den Of Heroes September Inductee: Sgt. Alonzo Montanya
It's that time again to introduce another hero to our Wolf Den.
September Wolf Den of Heroes Inductee: Sgt. Alonzo Montanya
We would be lying if we told you this wasn't the most emotional nomination we've received thus far. Christopher Jolicoeur wrote in his nomination of Sgt. Alonzo Montanya of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He shared his story writing:
On October 21, 2018, Alonzo saved me from the Newburgh Beacon Bridge. There was a moment when I decided I was going to jump, and he knew and he was going to save me or die trying. There was a story written about us by the Hudson Valley Post that explains that night in much more detail. But since that night, I have gone on to become a great chef, own a home, and have a fiancé and a beautiful daughter with another daughter on the way. And it’s all because of him. The only definition I can give him is my hero, he is my being, and he gave me life when I thought it was over! It’s an honor for me to nominate him because beyond saving me he raises money for so many amazing charities, he’s running the Chicago marathon for first responders. He is the epitome of what a human being should be.
Together, Jolicoeur and Sgt. Montanya are public speakers who discuss mental health and suicide awareness across New York State. As a Wolf Den of Heroes inductee, Sgt. Montanya will receive a $250 gift card from our friends at Mental Health America Dutchess County.
Montanya tells us that recently an MHA representative has been added to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office to help not only community members in crisis but also to provide assistance for law enforcement after traumatic events on call.
You can read more about that night in November 2018 on Hudson Valley Post. In the meantime, if you'd like to support Sgt. Montanya as he runs to raise awareness for First Responder Suicide at the Chicago Marathon visit his bio page on the marathons website.
Congratulations, Sgt. Montanya thank you for your service!
If there is a first responder in your life that you want to shine the light on, nominate them for our Wolf Den of Heroes nominate them HERE.
