Why the Hudson Valley Is the Best Place for St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick's Day is tomorrow and when it's on a Saturday, your options are open for a full day of festivities. The best part about living in the Hudson Valley for St. Patrick's day is NY City is only a train ride away if you want the full force of Irish pride via the parade.
The Hudson Valley knows how to turn St. Patrick's Day from a one day party to an entire holiday season. Last weekend in Poughkeepsie, this years St. Paddy's Season was kicked of at Waryas Park on the Hudson River Water Front with Paddy on the River. If you missed it you can watch a video of the shenanigans by clicking here.
If you are skipping the city trip this year there are plenty of Irish bars, pubs and restaurants featuring traditional food and fare.
The best reason for a Hudson Valley St. Patrick's Celebration is the local music scene. There are so many locally talented singer/songwriters that know all the Irish pub standards that you really can't go wrong no matter where you go.
The Horse & Sulky Pub & Grill located in Campbell Hall is featuring local music legend Chris Turpin & The Chris Turpin Band starting at 4pm. If you've never heard Chris Turpin you need to change that.
Darby O'Gills located in Hyde Park will host Adrian O'Leary at noon, another local singer who continues to set the standard for Irish Pub Songs. Eric Banger and the Mashers will also perform at 4pm.
Juan Murphy's is the youngest pub on this list having only been established a few years ago. Following the concept of an all day celebration they kick off their live Irish music in the morning. Ed Mulvaney starts at 9:30am while patrons can enjoy breakfast bangers & beer. Joe Murphy performs at 11:30am and at 4pm, 7 Fiddle & Guitar by Bob Stump & Doug Moody.
Mahoney's Irish Pub & Steakhouse continues to set the gold standard of St. Patrick's Day festivities in The Hudson Valley. Live music starts Saturday at 6am with Vince Fisher, with it's proximity to the Poughkeepsie train station, it's the perfect launch point for those making their way to the 212. Mick Lynch performs at 10am followed by Kelle's men of Derry performing until 10pm.
