All year long it is important that we keep water safety top of mind. This time of year with recreational boating so popular on the Hudson River it is most important that we focus on safe boating. Whether you kayak, canoe, jet ski, motor boat or sail it is a must that you understand the risks in the water ways around the Hudson Valley and take safety measure to prevent for-see able accidents.

Each year, sadly preventable injuries and even deaths occur on our local water ways. All to often these accidents, involving boats and other types of watercraft people use to enjoy the summer season, could have been prevented with some simple "safety first" preparation. Local area law enforcement along with other state and county organizations offer annual classes and certifications so that we can stay safe out on the water.

If you have not attend a class yet this season their is still time to find out what you might not know about boating and watercraft safety. Contacting your local boating club or sheriff's office can get you in touch with classes which may end up keeping you and other water enthusiastic safe this summer. Think about also throwing in a swimming lesson, it never hurts to brush up on what you already think you know.
