When is The 4th of July Weekend?

Is it this weekend or next weekend?

We are officially one week away from Independence Day, July 4th falls on a Wednesday this year which has lead us to a little confusion. When is the 4th of July weekend?

Is it this weekend or is it next? I always went by the rule that the weekend before is the weekend we celebrate. I really don't have a good explanation why but I've always referred to the weekend before as the holiday weekend and Jess agrees, so we are celebrating this weekend.
