What’s The Most Popular Sandwich in New York?
Ah, the great state of New York.
We have so many great things to offer, but I think we can all agree that we're probably home to some of the best food.
BuzzFeed shared a list from eZcater about the most iconic sandwich from each state. According to the list, our neighbors in Connecticut are known for their Connecticut Lobster Rolls. Our New Jersey friends fancy themselves an Italian Sub.
These make sense to me.
However, New York's sandwich of choice left me a bit confused. eZcater reports that the most popular sandwich from our home state is... Pastrami on Rye.
That's wrong though.
Every New Yorker knows that the BECSPK (bacon, egg, cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup) is the most popular and most delicious sandwich ever created. It's also a very state-specific sandwich.
An example for you, I went to Texas and ordered a Bacon Egg and Cheese from room service. 10 minutes later they called my room back and had to clarify what that meant and asked: " You want the bacon, eggs, and cheese on the bagel?"
It came up to the room with bacon on the side.
Listen I get it, there are some great deli's that make a mouthwatering Pastrami on rye in New York, but you can get them anywhere. I guarantee every deli from NYC to Buffalo can make an exceptional BEC, outside of NY state...well that's a different story.
Side note: Every BEC should come on a hard roll. Not on a bagel or toast.
