With a wind chill warning in effect from Saturday afternoon until Sunday at 1 pm, this may not be the best weekend for outdoor activities, but it doesn't mean you have to stay cooped up at home. There's plenty of fun, indoor activities you can enjoy this Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend here in the Hudson Valley.

 

Saturday, February 13, 5-7 pm: The 2016 NY State Special Olympics Winter Games Opening Reception. Arts Mid-Hudson Gallery has brought artists together from our community for the New York State Special Olympics Winter Games exhibit. Come see wonderful artistic interpretations of the winter games from participating artists from Abilities First, Anderson Center for Autism, Devereux Center, Madison Cahill, The ARC of Dutchess, and Taconic Resources. Free admission. Arts Mid-Hudson Gallery is located at 696 Dutchess Turnpike, Rt. 44 in Poughkeepsie.

Saturday, February 13, 2: Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum presents, as part of their President's Day Weekend Events, Sue Reich author of 'Quilts Presidential and Patriotic'. This special program will feature more than 330 images as Sue Reich looks at presidential quilts and patriotic quilts that have been made by American quilters. From the presidencies of George Washington through Barack Obama, the quilts, along with intriguing quilt-related comments from newspapers of the times, help us enjoy American history, and reflect on how quilt history has chosen to remember the US presidents.

Saturday, February 13, 10-4: Washington's Birthday Celebration at the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site. Soldiers will bring to life the Continental Army’s final winter encampment with musket and cannon firings, blacksmithing, medical demonstrations and other aspects of daily life at 11, 1:30, and 3:30 . Following these firings, children enlist in the Continental Army, drill with wooden muskets and get paid in Continental currency for their service.
