Columbus Day is Monday and for many that means a long weekend. The weather looks promising for the weekend, so it's perfect to get out and enjoy some of the great events going on this weekend in the Hudson Valley.

 

Saturday, October 10; 11-6: Community Free Day at DIA in Beacon. There will be programs for broad audiences, including thematic tours of the collection and special exhibitions, Gallery Talks, interactive workshops for children and families, and performances. Admission is free for residents of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties.

Saturday & Sunday, October 10 & 11: Founder's Day Oktoberfest in Jeffersonville. Two day event celebrating Jeffersonville’s German and Swiss Heritage. Parade, Great Pumpkin Race, Hot Dog/Brats Eating Contest, Art contest, Bed Races, Tug of War, Archery Contest, Ghost Stories at Stone Arch Bridge, Live Music, German/Swiss Fare, Traditional Oktoberfest games, and more.  Fun and activities for the entire family. Saturday, October 10; 9:30-1:30: Indian Rock HIke at Sam's Point. Starting at the Sam’s Point Visitor Center, you'll hike past the scenic vista at the Sam’s Point overlook and then make your way around Lake Maratanza.  At Indian Rock, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Catskill Mountains. This, nearly five mile, hike traverses woods roads and a rocky footpath featuring a bog bridge. Most of the terrain is fairly level with some short, steep sections. This program is being offered at the Sam’s Point Area in Cragsmoor. Pre-registration is required by calling Sam’s Point at 845-647-7989.

Saturday & Sunday, October 10 & 11: Fall Festival in Sugarloaf and the New American Oktoberfest. Enjoy arts, crafts, music and food throughout the hamlet of Sugarloaf, the Art & Craft Village. Plus, from 12-5 each day stop at the Sugarloaf Performing Arts Center for the New American Oktoberfest, admission is free.
