Man Found Dead Inside Ulster County Warming Center

A 51-year-old man was found unresponsive inside a warming center in Ellenville, NY.

The Ellenville Police Department (EPD) has confirmed that officers did locate an unresponsive/unconscious 51-year-old man on Saturday inside the Hunt Building in the Village of Ellenville, NY.

Deceased Man Found in Ulster County, NY

EPD stated that at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, officers were called to respond to a report of an unconscious male at the warming center at the Hunt Memorial Building at 2 Liberty St, Ellenville, NY.

As officers arrived on the scene, they quickly determined that a male, later identified as 51-year-old Lamont Frink of Ellenville, was deceased. Police didn't specify a cause of death but did say that Frink was transferred to Health Alliance Hospital, where a final determination of the cause of death will be made following an autopsy.

No Foul Play Suspected in Ellenville, NY

Ellenville Police Chief Philip Mattracion confirmed the findings on a recent Facebook post, stating, "There is no indication of any foul play; it appears from the investigation that the deceased suffered some sort of significant medical event while he was sleeping and passed away peacefully as a result."

Mattracion also stated that Frink's next of kin was immediately notified upon discovery and that the coordinators and staff who run the warming shelter were fully cooperative with the police investigation and "obviously distraught about the incident".

The Ulster County Medical Examiner's Office, the New York State Police in Wawarsing, and the Ellenville Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
