The checks may have been in the mail, they just didn't get to some folks during the summer of 2014.

The Daily Freeman is reporting that 30-year-old Heather Haff, of Rifton, was sentenced to six months in jail after being accused of stealing about $40,000 worth of checks in Lloyd and New Paltz. Ulster County Judge Donald A. Williams sentenced Rifton on Thursday to jail time and five years probation for felony grand larceny.

According to the Daily Freeman, Haff was arrested for stealing and cashing around $40,000 in checks from mailboxes in Lloyd and New Paltz, while she was employed as a newspaper delivery person. She didn't deliver papers for the Daily Freeman, but rather worked for Publishers Circulation Fulfillment in Kingston, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
