New York State officials have released the top 10 things New Yorkers complained about in 2025, and honestly, are we surprised?

Some people love to say New Yorkers complain about everything. And sure, we’re loud. We’re passionate. We’re not exactly shy about speaking up. But to say we complain more than everyone else? C’mon now.

New York Loves to Complain

As a lifelong New Yorker, I’ll say this with confidence: when we complain, there’s usually a reason. We don’t just wake up looking for something to be mad about. Most of the time, it’s because we feel like we got ripped off, treated unfairly, or straight-up ignored.

And if that happens? You better believe we’re going to make some noise about it.

Whether it’s blasting a business in a review, telling all our friends to avoid a place, or going straight to the top to file a complaint, we’re not letting it slide.

Where to Leave Your Complaints in New York

If you’ve ever had an issue with a company, you’ve got options. You can leave an online review, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, or take it a step further and contact the New York Office of the Attorney General.

And plenty of New Yorkers did just that in 2025.

Top 10 Consumer Complaints of 2025 in New York

According to Attorney General Letitia James, her office received thousands of complaints in 2025. And looking at the list, it’s pretty clear what’s frustrating people the most.

A lot of the top complaints center around the same themes many of us talk about every day: the rising cost of essential goods and services, housing issues, bank fraud, scams, and online privacy concerns.

In other words: money and trust.

“New Yorkers are already feeling the squeeze of higher prices, and scams, hidden fees, and deceptive practices can make daily life even harder to afford,” James said in a statement. “My office will not tolerate companies that take advantage of New Yorkers, and I am committed to enforcing the law and returning money to consumers who are cheated. I urge everyone to stay alert and report suspected scams and fraud to my office so we can continue protecting New Yorkers’ wallets.”

Translation? If someone’s trying to take advantage of you, the state wants to know about it.
