Bannerman Island Prepares For 2026 Season
As the winter snow begins to thaw, we start to think about all the wonderful outdoor activities we'll experience in the spring.
When the warmer weather rolls in around May, Bannerman Island will open up for the season.
Guests can purchase tickets for self-guided tours, kayak tours and other fun events like movies on the island.
This year as Bannerman prepares for the 2026 season, they're heading in with a grant from the The Environmental Protection Fund's Parks and Trails Partnership program worth $27,450.
Upcoming Restoration at Bannerman Includes Grotto and Access Improvements
The grant money will go to making much needed updates and restoration to the castle and island.
In a press release from early January 2026, Bannerman Castle Trust explains that the $27,450 will go to improvements to several parts of the island. The BCT wrote "The funding will support a transformative project on Pollepel Island, connecting the existing "Red Trail" to "The Grotto," a previously hidden architectural feature."
Additionally, the grant money will help improve the Wee Bay area for visitors where guests can enjoy beautiful views of the Hudson River near West Point.
Paul Steely, Parks & Trails New York Executive Director, said in the same press release:
“This year's record-breaking awards ensure that vital sites like Bannerman Island continue to educate, inspire, and warmly welcome all who visit."
