
New York State Police Issue Massive Number of Tickets
The New York State Police have announced they issued over 11,000 tickets to New York drivers in a four day span.
The New York State Police (NYSP) was extremely busy during this year's St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative which began on Friday, March 14th and continued until Monday, March 17th.
New York State Police St. Patrick’s Day Enforcement Initiative
The four-day campaign, which was one day longer than the 2024 initiative was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, resulted in Troopers issuing 11,582 tickets from Friday to Monday. Using various methods including, sobriety checkpoints, and additional DWI patrols the NYSP took numerous dangerous drivers off the roads.

The 2025 initiative also focused on distracted drivers using handheld electronics, aggressive drivers, the Move Over Law, and child restraint & seat belts, along with a detailed focus on underage drinking and sales of alcohol to minors.
11,582 Tickets Issued in New York
State Troopers arrested 239 people for DWI and investigated 563 crashes, which resulted in no fatalities. They also issued 3,680 speeding tickets, 337 distracted driving tickets, 423 seatbelt violations, and 161 Move Over Law violations.
Tickets Issued in the Hudson Valley, New York
In the western and eastern parts of the Hudson Valley Region, 2,284 tickets were issued in total. There were 79 DWI arrests, 801 speeding tickets, 64 distracted driving tickets, 54 child restraint or seat belt violation tickets, and 30 move-over tickets issued.
The number of tickets that were issued along the New York State Thruway was 1901. 23 of those were DWI arrests, 862 were for speeding, 74 were for distracted driving, 96 were for child restraint and seatbelt violations, and 58 were for move-over tickets.
During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, the State Police issued 8,662 tickets and arrested 217 people for DWI.
