Every year I have the honor of helping a friend decorate their home their for the holidays.I get invited over for lunch and then just the two of us get to started on one of the trees that will be part of a much larger display that are for an annual holiday party. It is so magical that I now can't imagine a Christmas where I wouldn't start the season by putting up this first tree with all it's traditions.

By the time I get to my friend's house he has already spent about two weeks unpacking and setting up his Santa collection which is so vast it has been published in magazines. Tragic side note some of the collection was actually lost in hurricane Lloyd but you wouldn't know it by the amount that survived. As beautiful as it is, it is impossible to take it all in at once. Their are thousands of them and they range in so many sizes it is hard to count.

The small ones that adorn the shelves in every room don't even hold a candle to the retro Santa's that are on display outside in the yard and along side every inch of the house. But the Santa's aren't why I go. I go because as a kid Christmas sparkled and had tradition built into every element. And now for some strange reason the tree that we decorate for the house party and all the ornament that tell a story even if it is only about their age, have become an important part of my new holiday tradition.
