NBC Nightly News had a report on tonight I thought was such a cool thing I just had to share in case you missed the report. I have heard of restaurants and supermarkets donating food to local food pantries, I have even heard of them leaving food out that they can't sell for people to just take but this idea brings that food to a larger group of people.

I don't think any of us realize how much surplus food we waste in the United States. We are so busy trying to get everything fresh and perfect at the grocery, it might not occur to us to ask were do all those over ripe tomatoes go? Well now thanks to Doug Rauch the former President of Trader Joe's one Boston community is reaping the benefits. Image a store were the prices are sometimes half of what you would pay at the super market all because the food is "passed it's prime". Doug is buying food from local supermarket chains and reselling it at a discount. This saves the food from being wasted and thrown into landfill while also making it more affordable for people struggling with income.

NBC Nightly News story on Doug Rauch and how he is solving to food issues with one idea.
