Trader Joe’s Will Open Another Store In Upstate New York

The rumors are true! Trader Joe's will be opening its third store in Upstate New York.

Back in January, rumors began to spread that the highly sought-after grocery store chain Trader Joe's was ready to expand again and add another Upstate New York location.

Trader Joe's Expanding in New York?

At the time, multiple reports indicated that the Capital Region (Albany, NY area) could possibly be getting its THIRD Trader Joe’s store in the near future. According to plans submitted to the planning board in the Town of Bethlehem, NY, in January, the Hamlet of Glenmont will soon be home to a new grocery store.

The site plans submitted by Benderson Development showed that the new project will include demolishing the current 18,000+-square-foot space and converting over 14,000 square feet of it into a grocery store at the Glenmont Plaza at 376-406 Feura Bush Road.

Will it be a Trader Joe's?

When the plans were submitted, they didn't specify which grocery store chain would occupy the new site, but after it was discovered that Trader Joe’s East Inc. applied for a New York State liquor license on December 19th at the proposed site, many believed that it would be a Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's Approved

It took some time, but now it's confirmed that Trader Joe's is moving forward with plans to open a new store in the Glenmont Shopping Plaza at 388 Feura Bush Road, as the site plan was approved Monday (5/20) at a Bethlehem Planning Board meeting.

The new site will include a Trader Joe's store, a new 6,000-square-foot retail/restaurant space, a 49-space parking lot, and a drive-up bank ATM, according to WTEN. There will also be some modifications to restrict specific turns onto Route 9W and the addition of a crosswalk and pedestrian signals.

When Will Construction Begin?

The developers now have one year to start construction and will begin the process of applying for building permits. When the Glenmont store is completed, it will be the third Trader Joe's in the area, joining stores already open in Halfmoon, NY, and on Wolf Road in Colonie, NY.
