Champagne was drank and food was eaten. 2018 is in the rear view mirror. It's time to kick off 2019 with a good pace. Why not start the year with one of these First Day Hikes being offered at State Parks in Ulster County.

The Minnewaska State Park Preserve is offering a Snowshoe Hike at the Peter's Kill Area. There are a limited number of snowshoes available to borrow so it is suggested that you rent them from the Park Preserve Office or bring your own. If the snow is non-existent then it will be a regular hike. the cost for this hike is $5 per person. You can preregister by calling 845-255-0752. There is actually 2 hikes available: Peter's Kill which is a 2-mile hike from 9:30 am to 12 pm. Or Awosting Falls which is 2.5 miles from 1 pm to 3 pm. Both hikes meet at the Peter's Kill Area at 5080 Route 44/55 in Gardiner.

You can also enjoy a First Day Hike from the Sam's Point Area with the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. The hike through the scenic preserve is about 3 miles in length. Snowshoes can be reserved for $5 per person, please arrive early. This will also be a hike if the snow fall ins't sufficient. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Call 845-647-7989 to preregister. The hike is from 1 pm to 3:30 pm and meets at 400 Sam's Point Road in Cragsmoor.

The Walkway Over the Hudson is also offering First Day fresh air and fun. They have scheduled Little Brays of Sunshine from 2 pm to 2:30 pm on The Walkway. The Catskill Interpretive Center is offering a First Day Night Hike/Snowshoe event capped off with a campfire. It is a fun easy hike with a campfire at the end. Bring your snowshoes or call about rentals. To preregister contact Olivia Bernard at 845-688-3369. The Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center is at 5096 Route 28 in Mount Tremper and online at catskillinterpretivecenter.org.
