New Speed Bumps Being Installed on Select Roads in Orange County
A pilot program to curb speeding on select roads is underway in Middletown, New York.
One thing I think most of us can agree on is that speeding has been a problem across New York state for many years, right? We have all experienced a situation when we see drivers paying no attention to any of the posted speed limits on many of the roads across the state. Oftentimes, these drivers are the ones who are responsible for accidents that are totally avoidable and would never happen if they simply drove the speed limit.
In an attempt to stop drivers from speeding on select roads, one Orange County, NY, city is beginning to install speed bumps.
Speed Bumps in Middletown, New York
The City of Middletown, NY, has announced that they have begun a new pilot project to install speed bumps on select city roads to enhance pedestrian safety and encourage responsible driving in school zones. Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano announced the project on March 26th, 2025, as part of the city's ongoing commitment to traffic safety, saying,
"This initiative is a direct response to community concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety, particularly around schools. Our goal is to create safer streets for our residents, students and families."
Where Will Speed Bumps Be Installed?
The city's Department of Public Works will install the first speed bumps on Grand Avenue near Twin Towers Middle School and said that appropriate signage will also be installed to alert drivers that speed bumps are ahead. The city plans to monitor the effectiveness of the new speed bumps, and listen to the community's feedback regarding the new pilot project. Mayor DeStefano encouraged residents to share their input by contacting the City's Department of Public Works at 845-343-3169.
