
Scary Moments At VFW Post In Poughkeepsie New York
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is actively investigating an incident that occurred Friday afternoon at the VFW Post 170 on Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
Town of Pougkeepsie Police Department Responds to Shots Fired
The sirens could be heard coming from all directions. People who work and live near the VFW Hall at 1 Violet Avenue in Poughkeepsie understood that something had happened that required law enforcement to arrive in force.
According to a Town of Poughkeepsie Police Press Release at approximately 3 PM officers from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to a report of gunshots being fired inside a building at 1 Violet Avenue.

This location is next door to The Violet Estates an Active Adult Community. There are also numerous private homes and businesses near the VFW Post.
Police Take Man Into Custody After Shots Fired Inside VFW Post 170
When they arrived the officers were told that a male had discharged a handgun into the ceiling inside the VFW at the location. It was also reported that the individual who had shot the ceiling had left the location. No injuries were reported.
The police were able to locate a male suspect who matched the description of the person accused of firing the gun. They took this man into custody. Police also were able to recover a handgun.
Police did not release any information regarding why this person is believed to have shot the ceiling inside the VFW. They also didn't mention what the individual was doing at the VFW Post in the middle of the day.
