The weather is officially changing. Temperatures are dropping closer to what feels like winter. Last Friday we actually had snow in parts of the Hudson Valley, so I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise but the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) has started closing places due to weather conditions.

Talking about snow and ice may seem silly as we experience a little Indian Summer this week but the reality is the weather is getting colder and some of the places we like to visit when temperatures are milder are going to start closing due to winter conditions.

Today the NYS DEC announced the immediate closure of a favorite trail for those of us that travel north on the weekends to enjoy the outdoors. November may be the month that we honor our veterans but it also seems to be the month we see the seasonally closure of Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The closure was announce today due to snow and ice. The closure is until further notice but hopefully is only temporary. However, according to the release the parkway will close for the season on Wednesday November 11th. If the warm temperatures drift north there is a good chance that this picturesque spot can open one more time before the 2020 season ends.

Prospect Mountain is a NYS DEC day use area located near Lake George. From the top of the park you can see a 360 degree, 100-mile view which includes Vermont, New Hampshire and even Canada on a really clear day. The Parkway leading to the top is 5.5 miles and is just 2 lanes wide with 3 vista on your way to the top.
