The 10 week program will run from March 14, through May 16, 2017.

If you have ever wanted to learn how our local police work to serve the community, this is a great program for Town of Poughkeepsie residents.

The citizen police academy will meet for 10 Tuesdays at the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Training Room located at the 19 Tucker Drive, Poughkeepsie and will be open to Town of Poughkeepsie residents and anyone who owns a business in the Town.

According to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police, department employees will offer attendees a look into how police officers perform their duties and serve the community, with the main focus of the program being to allow attendees to become familiar with their Police Department through classroom instruction and practical experience. The police department plans to share with all attendees thier “Who we are and what we do”, in hopes to enhance police and community relations.

Class size is limited and there is no cost to attend the program but you will need to fill out an application to be a part of the academy.

If you are interested, you can get an application by sending a request to: training@townofpoughkeepsie-ny.gov or online here.

Make sure you complete the application and have it submitted on or before Friday, February 24, 2017.
