Poughkeepsie Manhunt is Underway [UPDATED]

UPDATE 7:00pm: The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting that police have 2 men in custody as a result of the manhunt this afternoon in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting that town police around 6 pm seized a suspect in a wooded and swampy area near Van Wagner and Bedell roads in the town. The suspect was taken without incident after being pursued following a violent crime in the City of Poughkeepsie. He fled in a reportedly stolen vehicle that was spotted by a town officer who gave chase. The suspect hit a tree and fled the vehicle on foot.

UPDATE, 3:53PM: The Town of Poughkeepsie police say they are searching for a suspect in a violent crime in the City of Poughkeepsie after he fled into the woods near VanWagner Road late Monday morning.

"The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was alerted for a possible stolen vehicle reported taken in the course of a violent crime in the City of Poughkeepsie," Town of Poughkeepsie Police Chief Thomas Mauro said in a press release issued Monday afternoon.

Town of Poughkeepsie police attempted to stop a vehicle driving northbound on Taft Avenue toward VanWagner Road. The driver refused to pull over and subsequently struck a tree on VanWagner Road before fleeing the vehicle.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and their K9 Unit, Town of Hyde Park Police Department and the New York State Police's as patrol, aviation helicopter and K9 Units are searching the woods near VanWagner Road and Bedell Road.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing light clothing. Residents are asked to contact 911 should they observe any suspicious activity in the vicinity of VanWagner Road and Bedell Road or the wooded areas adjoining that general area.

UPDATE, 2:58PM: The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department issued the following alert on its Nixle.com account:

For advisement, there is police activity in the area of VanWagner Road, Bedell Road and Hornbeck Road. VanWagner Road is currently closed between Tucker Drive and Hornbeck Road. Motorists should expect delays.

A manhunt may be underway today, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal, several police were seen scouring Bedell Road in Poughkeepsie this afternoon in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

State police are assisting in the investigation, and the Town of Poughkeepsie police are not releasing a description of the person or his/her name, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Cops just stopped by my house (Poughkeepsie near salt point) looking for (the suspect). He's not a missing person. He's the suspect of a home invasion. Cops say to assume this guy is the worst of the worst. Be careful. He dumped his car on Van Wagner. Believed to be in the woods around North Grand/Salt Point area.
