Hudson Valley Pickleball Center Takes Over Christmas Tree Shop
In the summer of 2023, we learned that Christmas Tree Shop locations across the nation would be going out of business. One of those locations was the Christmas Tree Shop in the South Hills Plaza in Poughkeepsie, New York.
It didn't take long for a new business to call the South Hills Plaza home. In October 2023 Hudson Valley Pickleball and Golf Center announced they would be taking over the old Christmas Tree Shop building in 2024.
We spoke with Brian Vigorita, Glen Beram, and Russel Tigges who told us they would be bringing a state-of-the-art facility with golf simulators and indoor pickleball courts to the area.

When we spoke to Vigorita, he told us that there would be 10 indoor pickleball courts with Herculan granulated rubber floors that make it easier on the knees and joints for pickleball players.
They are also planning on having 5 advanced golf indoor golf simulators that will make you completely forget you're not outside.

Is Pickleball The Reason For a Tennis Decline?

In the statement announcing their closure, Cross Courts wrote "Sadly, communities are tearing up tennis courts and replacing them with pickleball courts. Public courts where many kids learned to play, cheaply, are being erased."
Adding:
Pickleball is currently popular and added to the decline of tennis (ironically, with the assistance of the USTA.)
It's no secret that Pickleball is becoming one of the more popular paddle sports, but one could argue that tennis is still very much at the forefront. The US Open was one of the biggest sporting events of the year, with millions watching from home and recapping on social media.
No word yet on what Cross Courts Tennis Club will become in the future.
