The reason behind the closure is pretty gross.

McSorley's Old Ale House, is one of New York City's oldest bars and has, over the years become a pretty big tourist attraction for beer drinkers.

According to ABC, McSorley's was temporarily closed on Tuesday by the health department because there was evidence of rats and vermin in the building and food was being stored at the wrong temperature.

After the inspection was done at McSorley's, they earned 28 points because of violations found at the bar. That normally wouldn't be enough for the bar to be shut down, but in this case, there were things that couldn't be fixed immediately so the Health Department had to temporarily close the bar down.

For the bar to reopen, they must fix all the problems that were found during the inspection and once that's done they can request a reopening inspection.

I remember years ago me and a few friends of mine went to the city for some event and wound up at McSorley's in the middle of the afternoon. From what I remember when you ordered beer you would just say light or dark, those were your only choices. Definitely my kind of place and oh man, the cheese platter there was so good.

Hopefully they will be back open sooner than later.
