O’ Pahutakowa Tree

What if it is summer where you are celebrating Christmas? What would your tree look like? Many of us have family and friends who don't live in the North East so Christmas may look very different in their zip code.

In the 80's I was living with my parents in Hawaii and we managed to find a pine tree for Christmas but let me just say Charlie Brown's tree looked like the Rockefeller Center tree compared to the one we put up that year. Most people we knew that year decorated a Palm Tree. Of course there is the joke going around face book about just taping the pine tree air freshener to the wall. Or the now famous Corona tree from the holiday commercial on TV.

If you have family who aren't local ask them what a "Christmas" tree looks like where they live. I asked my sister who lives in New Zealand about their tree this year, last year it was 3 decorated boat oars. It actually looked pretty cool. This year I think they are attempting a real tree but she sent me this photo of a Pahutakowa Tree. It is called the New Zealand Christmas Tree because it has these beautiful blooms this time of year.
