Local Firefighter Injured in Wrong Way Accident

The City of Newburgh Firefighters IAFF Local 589 shared that one of their own was involved in a devasting accident.

According to the post, Guillermo Mollins was seriously injured after he was involved in an accident where he was struck by a wrong-way driver.

Mollins is a "dedicated City of Newburgh firefighter and proud member of Local 589." He also is a U.S. Army Veteran.

Newburgh Firefighter Seriously Injured on a Long Road to Recovery

The City of Newburgh Firefighters IAFF explains that Mollins is on a long road to recover due to the severity of his injuries.

In the post they write :

Due to the severity of his injuries, he requires multiple ongoing surgeries and a long recovery. Because he is relatively new to the department, his available sick leave will only cover him for a limited time and once that is exhausted, he will need to take a leave of absence to recover, during which time he will receive no pay.

Being out of work for song long will take a toll on Mollins and his family, as he is a father with to a 10-year-old son.

With that being said, the firefighting community has come together to make this easier on Mollins and his family.

Fundraiser Underway for Newburgh Firefighter Seriously Injured in Crash

A GoFundMe has been created to raise money for Mollins as he recovers from the accident.

The account explains the "donations raised through this fun will help offset medical costs, cover essential living expenses, and provide stability and support for his son during this incredibly difficult time.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference

As of January 12th, 2026, $28,628 has been raised out of a goal of $50,000.
