Newburgh Firefighter, Veteran Seriously Injured in Car Accident

In early January 2026, a local Newburgh firefighter was involved in a serious accident in New Jersey.

Guillermo Mollins is a City of Newburgh firefighter and a U.S. Army Veteran. The week of January 12th, 2026 Mollins was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident as he was struck by a wrong-way driver in Ridgefield Park, NJ.

According to New Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2081 Mollins was "heavily entrapped in his vehicle." They share that the night of the accident Hackensack Rescue 1 was requested to assist "Due to the severity of the entrapment."

Hackensack Rescue worked with Ridgefield Park FD and Teaneck FD where they "worked together to safely extricate Firefighter Mollins so he could be transported to the hospital."

Since then Mollins has been in the hospital on his long road to recovery.

Local Firefighter Discharged From Hospital With Clap-Out

On January 18th, 2026 Guillermo Mollins was officially discharged from the hospital.

The New Hackensack Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2081 shared the good news on social media. They write

Today, on- and off-duty members of Hackensack Firefighters IAFF Local 2081 and Hackensack Fire Officers Local 3172 proudly attended a clap-out in support of Guillermo Mollins as he was discharged from Hackensack University Medical Center.

Firefighter Community Starts GoFundMe for Injured Newburgh Firefighter

According to New Hackensack Fire Fighters, Mollins has "undergone multiple surgeries."

The local Hudson Valley firefighting community has joined together to create a GoFundMe page to assist Mollins as he recovers.

Mollins is a father to a 10-year-old son and will likely be out of work while he recovers. The GoFundMe page states " Because he is relatively new to the department, his available sick leave will only cover him for a limited time and once that is exhausted, he will need to take a leave of absence to recover, during which time he will receive no pay.."

As of January 20th, 2026 the GoFundMe has raised $40,903 out of the $50,000 goal. You can make your donation HERE.
