New Phone Made Me Feel Like I Was Having a Stroke

Has your phone ever made you feel like something was wrong?

There have been many times in life when technology has gotten the best of me and after upgrading to a new iPhone recently my phone made me feel like I was having some sort of medical emergency!

Something is Wrong!

I'm going to try and do my best to explain exactly what happened to me so that if something similar happens to you, you won't freak out the way I did and have your brain go to the "I'm having a medical emergency" place we all fear!

Last Tuesday as I finished up my second job playing music at Tuesday night line dancing at Billy Joe's in Newburgh, NY I hopped into my truck after loading up all my equipment and started to drive home to Poughkeepsie. After listening to music for 12 hours I decided that I was going to listen to a podcast for the drive up Route 9W so I opened the podcast app, clicked on my favorite (Dateline), and hit play on an older episode.

After listening for a few minutes I noticed that every word said was slurred, like they were drunk. At first, I was like is something wrong with me? Why am I hearing it like this? All questions I asked myself. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to also saying to myself "Am I having a stroke?" Isn't one of the signs of a stroke where things slow down? Anyway, I continued to listen assuming that maybe it was just the episode I was listening to.

Why Does Every Podcast Sound Drunk?

Over the next couple of days, I continued to listen and everything I played sounded the same way. DRUNK!!! Fast forward to Friday, three days later after I picked up my son, he asked me why the lady talking sounded drunk....LOL! Thankfully he heard it the same way I did and asked to see my phone. He took one look at it and after messing around with it for less than a minute it had it playing normally.

After thanking him and explaining that I thought I was going crazy I had him show me what he did...

He opened the podcast app circled in red...

Then he clicked on the Dateline episode I was listening to and pointed out the playback speed option...

YUP, it was set to playback at 0.75 speed instead of the regular speed...

After changing it to 1, everything played normally...LOL! OH THANK GOD!!! I have no clue how it got changed to a different speed but because I'm not the smartest knife in the drawer, I included pictures above to help folks like me who have a hard time following directions....LOL!
