Looks like NASCAR won't have one of their best behind the wheel for a couple of races.

Matt Kenseth has been suspended for two Sprint Cup Series races for intentionally wrecking Joey Logano in last weekend’s event at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR also placed Kenseth on probation for six months. Kenseth plans to appeal the decision.

Joe Gibbs Racing, issued its own statement:

The appeal will challenge the severity of the penalty which is believed to be inconsistent with previous penalties for similar on-track incidents. There will be no further comments from JGR personnel during the appeal process.

NASCAR found that Matt Kenseth intentionally wrecked Logano, who as of late has been on fire, grabbing the checkered flag in the previous three races, as retaliation for an incident a few weeks earlier. That incident took place two weeks earlier at Kansas Speedway, when Logano pressured and eventually spun Kenseth in a late-race battle for the lead.

NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France told NASCAR.com, "What we want to prevent happening is drivers or anyone participating in NASCAR to take events into their own hands and control outcomes of races, that's a very serious thing to us, and we'll be dealing with that."
