Orange County Mother Charged in The Tragic Death of Two Year Old Child

The New York State Police have arrested a mother and charged her in the death of her two-year-old child, who was left unattended in a vehicle for over eight hours in Orange County, NY.

Unresponsive Child Found in Orange County, NY

Back on September 19th, 2025, the City of Middletown Police Department was called to respond to a report of an unresponsive child who was brought into a healthcare facility located on Benton Avenue in the City of Middletown, NY.

Upon arrival, officers located the 2-year-old child and quickly transported them to the Garnet Health Medical Center to receive treatment. Tragically, the child was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The New York State Police were notified of the death and quickly began an investigation into what happened, according to a NYSP press release.

During the course of the two-month investigation, the NYSP determined that the child had been left unattended in an unoccupied vehicle for over eight hours. Police said that the location of the vehicle and the hot temperatures inside the unventilated car ultimately resulted in the death of the 2-year-old victim.

Mother Arrested in Child's Death

On November 18th, 2025, the New York State Police Troop F Orange County Child Abuse Unit announced the arrest of the child's mother, 33-year-old Zenaida Soriano-Rincon, of Middletown, NY. Police said that the child was left unattended in the vehicle while Soriano-Rincon was at work.

She was arrested and charged with 2nd degree manslaughter and recklessly causing death, both felonies.

Soriano-Rincon was arraigned at Orange County Court Central Arraignment Part on 11/18/2025 and was sent to the Orange County Jail with bail set at $250,000.00, $500,000 bond, $1,000,000 partially secured bond.
