After what felt like a tease for fall, Mother Nature has returned to her old self and she's bringing the heat...dome.
Heat Dome to Bubble Over Parts of New York State This Week
It's going to get hot here in the Hudson Valley and parts of New York State.
Accu Weather reports that 100 million Americans will find themselves under a "massive heat dome" on Friday, July 25th, 2025.
They write "A massive heat dome will be long-lasting and unforgiving across large areas of the United States in the coming weeks." The weather website adds that the "real feel" will feel like upwards to 110F.
So what exactly is a Heat Dome? The Weather Channel breaks it down for us explaining that it is weather phenomenon adding:
where a large area of high-pressure air gets trapped near the Earth's surface, causing extremely high temperatures and often leading to prolonged heat waves.
Basically it's like putting "a lid on the atmosphere" and that lid prevents the heave from escaping which causes the heat to intensify.
When Was The Hottest NY Summer on Record?
It wasn't too long ago that we were sweating through the hottest summer on record here in New York State.
According to data from the National Weather Service, there were 12 days in 2023 over 90F making it the hottest summer on record.
The hottest day in New York State was back on July 3rd, 1966, where temperatures sored to 107F as reported by Plantmaps.com.

Summer will officially wrap up on Monday, September 26th, we think the summer of 2025 may give 2023 a run for its money when it comes to the hottest summer on record.
