Orange County Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident Involving a Deer
A tragic early morning accident has claimed the life of a 28-year-old man from Pine Bush, New York.
According to the Town of Crawford Chief of Police Dominick L. Blasko at approximately 6:50 a.m. Saturday morning October 5th, the Town of Crawford Police Department (CPD) was called to respond to a report of a motorcycle accident on State Route 302.
Tragic Motorcycle Accident in Pine Bush, New York
As officers arrived on the scene on RT 302 just south of the intersection with State Route 17K they discovered that a motorcycle had collided with a deer that was crossing the road. After a New York State Police-assisted investigation, CPD determined that a deer had crossed the path of the motorcycle operated by a 28-year-old Orange County, NY man causing a collision.
Pine Bush Man, Killed in Accident
According to Crime Watch, Stephen Montgomery of Pine Bush, NY was operating his 2016 Harley Davidson Motorcycle southbound on State Route 302 just before 7 a.m. when a deer crossed his path causing the collision leading to Montgomery being thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued to slide down the roadway, striking a PVC pipe before it came to rest.

First responders from the Bullville Fire Department and Pine Bush Ambulance quickly arrived on the scene and transported Montgomery to Garnet Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Deer-Involved Accidents in New York
Deer-involved car accidents are nothing new in New York, especially in the Hudson Valley but tragic accidents like this are reminders that they can happen at any time and drivers need to stay alert.
New York State, which is currently ranked number 32 for deer-car accidents has approximately 65,000 deer-vehicle collisions each year according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Most of those accidents happen from October through December and are more common around dusk or dawn.
