Man Allegedly on Drugs Punched Officer in the Face, Police Say
A City of Newburgh police officer was punched in the face by a man under the influence of drugs.
Officer Scuadroni responded to 336 Washington Street in the City of Newburgh for a report of an unwanted person trespassing. Upon his arrival, Officer Scuadroni observed a man pacing in the driveway.
The male was also screaming. Officer Scuadroni approached and attempted to speak with the individual who appeared to be under the influence of some sort of narcotic. The individual advanced towards Officer Scuadroni and punched him in the face.
PO Scuadroni then deployed his K9 Partner “Lee” who was able to control the male's left arm. Officer Scuadroni continued to fight with the individual in an attempt to place him under arrest and was able to call over the radio for assistance from other Officers.
Several officers arrived and were able to take the male into custody. The male is identified as Tony Mann. Due to Mann being under the influence of a narcotic, he was transported to St. Luke's Emergency Room for treatment.
Mann also suffered minor injuries from the K9 bite. Charges were filed with City of
Newburgh Court and an Arrest Warrant was requested. Officer Scuadroni suffered minor injury to his mouth, left and right thumbs including cuts.
It was learned after speaking to the initial caller that Mr. Mann had entered the driveway of 336 Washington Street and threatened a male party with a folding knife. The knife was recovered in the driveway.
