This time of year we all try to do what we can to help out those that are having a tough time.

We are doing the CJ and Jess Wolf Flory's Holiday Express toy drive to benefit the salvation army and you can help by donating a new unwrapped toy.

Another way you could help this year is by helping a 5th grader from Rhinebeck as she tries to do an amazing thing.

According to the Daily Freeman, back in October, Rachel Kahn started a mad hatter hat drive that hopes to get new hats for children who have lost their hair from cancer treatment and will go to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Rosie Kahn, Rachel's mom, told the Freeman that her daughter started the drive for hats on October 6th in recognition of the numbers on the hat of the Mad Hatter character in Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”

She also said that “She made a box and put it at Chancellor Livingston Elementary School with a sign, and collected 45 to 50 hats.”

Here is how we can help Rachel's hat drive. She will be out on Saturday during the Sinterklaas celebration in the village of Rhinebeck and she will have a box set up in front of Rhinebeck Bank on Montgomery Street collecting only new and unused hats.

All the hats that are collected will be sealed in individual zip lock bags and then sent to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
