Kingston Graduate Lands With New York Baseball Team
A former Kingston high school baseball player has officially joined one of New York's major league baseball teams.
If you follow Hudson Valley High School sports and are good with names, you might remember the name Zack Short. Short was a name that many baseball fans in the area came to know when he shined on the diamond while playing the infield for the Kingston Tigers baseball team.
Kingston's Zack Short Enters Major League Baseball Draft
In 2016 Short was drafted in the 17th round by the Chicago Cubs in MLB's yearly draft and after signing, he spent a few seasons in the Cubs minor league affiliates until 2019 when he was added to the team's 40-man roster according to Wikipedia.
Short Traded to Detroit
In August 2020, Short was traded by the Cubs to the Detroit Tigers and did not play a game all season due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zack Short Makes MLB Debut
In April of 2021, Zack was promoted to the majors and made his debut playing third base against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He finished the 2021 season playing 61 games in total.

In 2022 he spent most of the season with the Tigers Triple–A team, the Toledo Mud Hens, playing in 128 games. He did appear in a handful of major league games with the Tigers in 2022 and played in 112 games in 2023.
Zack Short Claimed by New York Mets
On November 6, 2023, the New York Mets added Short to its team after the Tigers put him on waivers a few days earlier according to Sports Illustrated. Will we see Short playing at Citi Field in 2024 for the Mets? It's unclear just yet, but according to many baseball insiders, he will be competing for a utility infield job with the Mets in spring training.
